BOCA RATON — Though Lane Kiffin is motivating his team to leave last year behind them, the second-year Florida Atlantic coach is seemingly bothered by one nagging regret.
Thriving under Kiffin and offensive coordinator Kendal Briles, sophomore running back Devin Singletary finished with an FBS-high 32 rushing touchdowns. Had Singletary found the end zone six more times – and with 31 touchdowns in the final 12 games of FAU’s 11-3 run, that outcome isn’t entirely unrealistic – he’d have passed Oklahoma State’s Barry Sanders’ 37 scores in 1988 for the single-season record.
“That’s the third-most touchdowns in the history of college football and he’s sitting on the bench in a lot of fourth quarters,” Kiffin said.
