FC Dallas took no chances when it saw the re-entry draft list for 2015, moving quickly to bring in forward Maxi Urruti.
The Portland Timbers had declined his option after a 2015 season that saw him make significant contributions to the MLS Cup-winning team. But faced with salary-cap-related decisions, the Timbers elected to stick with Fanendo Adi and Lucas Melano up top and let Urruti go.
FCD traded to the top spot in the re-entry draft, making Urruti the first pick and nearly immediately putting him to work as the starting forward in Oscar Pareja's system.
"Maxi, when he was available, obviously it caught the club's eyes and we were saying, 'We can bring a player who can help us and be important,'" the FCD coach said this week.
