Luchi Gonzalez asked for something specific from his players against the Portland Timbers on Saturday: 600 passes.
FCD fell well short of the goal, completing 478 in a 2-1 win over the Timbers, but the FCD coach said the mark is more of a fundamental to work toward instead of a hard-and-fast rule.
"It's an objective criteria that you either reach or you don't, but I like the idea that you fight and you try to reach something," he said. "I'm not black and white with everything. I like fluidity. I like flexibility. There's some moments to give us structure and to aim for something that's realistic and I want to always make that a realistic statistic for us, to get 600 passes.
