FRISCO - The U.S. women's soccer team beat rival Canada 2-0 Wednesday, claiming the 2018 North American title.
The teams met at Toyota Stadium in the final of the women's championship tournament of CONCACAF, the international federation representing the North American region, including Central America and the Caribbean.
The tournament served as the regional qualifier for the 2019 Women's World Cup in France, but Wednesday's match was for little more than bragging rights. Both Canada and the United States automatically qualified for the World Cup just by making it to the title game.
Earlier Wednesday, in the third-place game, Jamaica earned its first trip to a Women's World Cup - and the first by any Caribbean team - by outscoring Panama 4-2 on penalty kicks after the teams played to a 2-2 draw.
