The Fort Worth Vaqueros headed west short of seven potential starters due to suspensions, injuries and family obligations. The players who were available traveled to Midland's Grande Communications Stadium put up a valiant effort but unfortunately fell to the Midland-Odessa Sockers, 1-0 on Saturday.
The Vaqueros (4-1-1, 13 points) scrapped until the 84th minute before giving up the game's lone goal to the Sockers (6-1-1, 19 points).
"The boys we had gave everything," Vaqueros coach Nick Stavrou said. "It's a tough pill to swallow to lose on such a late goal. For us to have a chance to win these type of games, we have to be more efficient with the few opportunities we get.
