ARLINGTON -- Clint Dempsey has a chance to tie or set an American men's soccer record in his home state Saturday.
Doing so would probably push the United States into a championship game.
When the United States battles Costa Rica at 9 p.m. in a Gold Cup semifinal at AT&T Stadium, Dempsey, who is from Nacogdoches and played youth soccer for the Dallas Texans, could tie or pass Landon Donovan as the all-time leading scorer in men's national team history.
Donovan scored 57 goals in his international career, including his 55th and 56th goals in a 2013 Gold Cup semifinal in Arlington.
