FRISCO -- There are no Texans on the U.S. team, but Collin County still had a hometown favorite Saturday.
Alina Garciamendez, 24, a starting defender for Mexico, grew up in Fairview and played high school soccer at Ursuline Academy of Dallas.
Garciamendez has dual citizenship because her parents are from Mexico. She joined the Mexican national team in 2009, knowing she'd get playing time there.
"I'm feeling very excited -- super nervous because it's in my hometown, and family and friends are going to be tuning in and at the game," Garciamendez told KXAS-TV (NBC5) before Saturday's match.
