HOUSTON -- Mauro Manotas scored twice Saturday, and the Houston Dynamo fended off a late FC Dallas surge to claim a 2-1 Texas Derby victory notable for its particularly cruel finish for FC Dallas.
Manotas opened the scoring in the 20th minute, putting enough power on a penalty kick to slip it under a diving Jesse Gonzalez. In the 58th minute, Manotas let Alberth Elis' pass slip through his legs and find Memo Rodriguez out wide. Rodriguez fed it back to Manotas for a close-range finish to give the Dynamo a 2-0 lead.
Houston nearly made it 3-0, with Romell Quioto putting the ball in the net shortly after he came into the game in the 85th minute, but the goal was overturned for offside.
