FC Dallas, in the club's first use of an USL affiliation contract signing, have signed their 19th Academy player: goalkeeper Carlos Avilez.
Technically, Avilez has signed a contract with FC Dallas' USL affiliate OKC Energy FC but still belongs to FC Dallas and is being paid by FC Dallas. Avilez will apparently stay in Frisco with FC Dallas to train and will not cost FCD any roster or cap space.
To make a baseball analogy, it's like he signed a Triple-A contract but is staying with the parent club.
Even though he won't be joining OKC to play or train (OKC has three other keepers), Avilez can be only be added to the FC Dallas game day roster in the case of an "extreme hardship recall" from the Energy.
