FC Dallas notebook: Holes to fill during first FIFA international break; stats say team needs more meaningful possessions

FRISCO -- FC Dallas has holes to fill on its roster this weekend thanks to the first FIFA international break of the year.

One of the open positions is goalkeeper, with Jesse Gonzalez training with the U.S. men's national team. Gonzalez's call-up opens an opportunity for experienced keeper Jimmy Maurer, who started the 2018 season strong with 10 straight starts before being benched.

Maurer's last start came on Aug. 29, in FCD's 4-3 loss to San Jose.

"No matter what week, I'm always prepared to start," Maurer said. "You just never know what could happen in the last second, so I take this week the same I've taken every week this year, and even when I wasn't starting last year.
