They're a dime a dozen in college football. Floyd of Rosedale, the Golden Hat and the Old Oaken Bucket are just some of the rivalry trophies teams are dreaming of hoisting as the new season dawns. In soccer, they're much more rare.
Rivalry trophies are a mostly American phenomenon and generally take on the form of a dinky little cup. The exception, of course, is El Capitan, the imitation Civil War-era howitzer that FC Dallas will try to snatch back from the rival Houston Dynamo with a victory Saturday in the final meeting between the teams this season.
