As many suspected, Dallas and Portland started this rather tentatively with both clubs missing several key players due to international call ups. Both Dallas and Portland were sloppy in the opening ten minutes, with neither side able to string more than three passes together.
Things changed in 12th minute when Barrios got in behind the Portland defense and was tripped by Jake Gleeson to give Dallas an early penalty. Mauro Diaz stepped up and slotted it beautifully into the left corner to give Dallas an early lead.
Portland spent the next 10 minutes seeking an equalizer and came close in the 17th minute when Chris Seitz came way off his line but missed the ball and Lucas Melano was able to slide the ball across the face of goal.
