Center back Reto Ziegler
FC Dallas has appealed the red card issued to Reto Ziegler in the 91st minute of its 2-1 defeat to the Seattle Sounders. Ziegler saw red after striking Sounders forward Raul Ruidiaz, who had moved his head back toward the defender just before. Ziegler also made contact with an official while protesting the decision. Ruidiaz wasn't disciplined, nor was VAR utilized on the play.
The appeal process sounds simple but in reality is a tightly governed process. Teams must submit a written appeal on official letterhead to the league's VP of competition within 24 hours of the match in question ending.
