This afternoon FC Dallas announced that they have acquired midfielder Thiago Santos on a permanent transfer from Brazilian league’s Palmeiras. Santoas will join as a Targeted Allocation Money (TAM) player.
Santos will officially join the team in January when the transfer window opens and pending the approval of his P-1 Visa and International Transfer Certificate (ITC). This is standard for international transfers, but just takes a while to get all the paperwork in order.
Interestingly, Santos is 30 and has spent the last five season in the Brazilian first division. Santos’ age isn’t quite what fans may have been expecting in terms of a transfer, but given that Dallas had the youngest team in MLS by far in 2019, and the team lost Carlos Gruezo over the summer, it’s a smart move to get a veteran on the team.
