Evidence continues to mount that Blaine Gabbert is running away with the San Francisco 49ers starting job. Gabbert got the start going 4-of-10 for 63 yards and a touchdown in the team’s preseason opener on Sunday and Thaddeus Lewis was his primary backup with Colin Kaepernick still sidelined with a shoulder injury. ESPN’s Adam Caplan piled on this theory that the QB competition has been over for a while tweeting out, “He (Gabbert) has been landslide favorite for weeks, but Chip is trying to be fair to CK (Colin Kaepernick).
