Everton Under-23s kicked off their Premier League 2 campaign with a 2-0 success over Tottenham Hotspur at Stevenage’s Broadhall Way.
David Unsworth named Brendan Galloway and Tom Davies in a strong starting line-up, but it was Ryan Ledson who very nearly opened the scoring.
The midfielder’s header looked like it was flying over the line but Joe Pritchard’s timely intervention denied the Blues a goal.
Spurs then took control of the half and only Mateusz Hewelt’s heroics stopped Shayon Harrison opening the scoring.
First the Toffees’ glovesman made himself big to block the Tottenham striker’s shot after he was played in by Marcus Edwards, but his next stop was even better.
