David Unsworth says an ‘awful’ first half gave Everton Under-23s a mountain to climb in their Premier League International Cup defeat to Hertha Berlin II.
Having beaten Reading in their opening fixture in the competition, the young Blues welcomed their German counterparts to Goodison Park on Wednesday night.
But a brace from Sidney Friede and a third from Sinan Kurt gave the visitors a half-time lead that the hosts could not recover from.
“First half, we were awful,” Unsworth admitted to evertontv. “We made 10 changes to give the lads who haven’t been playing an opportunity to shine and make our decisions tough.
