David Unsworth declared it “a proud day for Everton” after five Blues helped England Under-20s to World Cup glory.
The Everton Under-23s coach watched from afar as Dominic Calvert-Lewin struck the all-important goal in a 1-0 win over Venezuela in Sunday’s final in Suwon, South Korea.
Jonjoe Kenny, Kieran Dowell and Ademola Lookman also impressed for the Young Lions, while Callum Connolly was an unused substitute on the night.
And, having been part of the England Under-20 squad that finished third at the 1993 FIFA World Youth Championship in Australia, Unsworth recognises just how impressive the feat of is.
