Carlo Ancelotti has been told he can revamp Everton's squad but it does not mean he will rush out to reunite with some former superstars.
Everton's manager does not believe that major surgery is required to turn his group into one that can challenge consistently for European football and he has held discussions with owner Farhad Moshiri and Marcel Brands, the Sporting Director, about targets.
He is unequivocal that Everton will finance his plans, saying: 'I have assurances from the board that we are going to improve the squad.'
Ancelotti has worked with countless big names during the last decade and it has led to Everton being linked with Edinson Cavani, Adrien Rabiot and Thiago Silva - three of his old Paris St Germain squad - and Real Madrid's James Rodriguez.
