Steven Pienaar has revealed how he was left hurt after failing to get the chance to say a proper goodbye to Everton fans.
The skilful South African announced his retirement from playing football last month after ending his contract with Johannesburg-based Bidvest Wits and is looking to write another chapter in his career after being appointed as the Toffees’ first international ambassador.
Pienaar captained his country, played for Ajax, Borussia Dortmund, Tottenham and Sunderland yet it was at Everton where he felt most at home, making 229 appearances.
He established himself as a fans favourite under David Moyes and seemed destined to fit into the plans of Roberto Martinez only to be hindered by hamstring injuries.
