Andy Spence was buoyed by his Everton Ladies second half performance despite narrowly losing to Birmingham City 1-0 in their Women’s Super League opener.
The Blue Girls’ first league game of the season ended in defeat on Sunday afternoon after a slow start saw Charlie Wellings score inside the first minute, but manager Spence applauded his team’s effort after a much-improved performance in the second half.
After the defeat Toffees boss Spence said: “Conceding the goal early on was a big blow to take, but credit to them they hung in there in the first half.
"When you concede after 42 seconds you can let the game run away from you so in that respect we didn’t.
