Sky Sports apologise to Everton for 'insensitive and regrettable comments' which saw commentators MOCK black armbands worn by the team against Aston Villa in tribute to the fan who died whilst working at the Toffees' new stadium

Sky Sports have apologised to Everton for ‘insensitive and regrettable’ comments made during the Toffees’ loss at Aston Villa on Sunday in which commentators mocked black armbands worn by the team.

Everton were paying tribute to Michael Jones, the 26-year-old fan who died working at the site of their new stadium at Bramley Moore Dock last week.

But Sky Sports commentators Bill Leslie and Andy Hinchliffe joked boss Sean Dyche looked ‘like a croupier’ - a casino operator - in his white shirt and black armband.

Sky Sports have apologised in a statement for 'any upset or distress' caused by the comments, and stated they have reminded the commentators of their ‘responsibilities and the need for care and sensitivity’.
