Romelu Lukaku didn't sign a new deal at Everton because he received a phone call from his mother during negotiations telling him he had to join Chelsea, according to the club's owner Farhad Moshiri.
Lukaku, who moved to Manchester United from Everton last season for £75million, was offered a new deal in March last year.
Moshiri revealed at the club's AGM on Tuesday night that the striker was expected to sign a new deal before the intervention.
He said: 'His agent (Mino Raiola) came to Finch Farm to sign contract then Lukaku phones his mother and "there was a pilgrimage to Africa and some sort of voodoo that says he had to sign for Chelsea".
