Newcastle have kept in touch with the top four after they made it three wins in four by beating Everton 1-0 at St James' Park on Wednesday night.
Miguel Almiron sent the home support into a frenzy when he scored a brilliant curling effort to break the deadlock on the half-hour mark.
Everton wanted a penalty minutes before the break after Anthony Gordon went down inside the area but the referee, and VAR, said nothing doing.
Almiron had a brilliant chance to double the lead for Eddie Howe's side with 20 minutes left, but his shot was brilliantly blocked and kept Everton in the game.
