McGeady Stars In North End Win

Aiden McGeady helped Preston North End continue their good run of form in the Championship as the Lilywhites made it three matches unbeaten with a 2-0 home win against Aston Villa.

The winger, on a season-long deal with the Lancashire club, completed 82 minutes at Deepdale, where goals from Ben Pearson and Jordan Hugill lifted North End up to 17th in the table.

It proved to be the last match in charge of Villa for manager Roberto Di Matteo, who left his job on Monday morning.

Staying in the Championship, Luke Garbutt and Conor Grant were unused substitutes on Saturday for Wigan Athletic and Ipswich Town respectively.
