Dan Turner’s fine half-volley was not enough as Everton Ladies had to settle for a 1-1 draw at Sunderland in WSL 1.

The Blue Girls skipper put Andy Spence’s side ahead after the break but the home side hit back to leave Everton on 10 points in the division.

It was Turner who created the game’s first chance when she swivelled round her opponent before being tripped. Angharad James took the resulting free-kick which found Gabby George, however the defender couldn’t get a crucial touch and the ball went out for a goal-kick.

On nine minutes, Chloe Kelly was next to try her luck, this time from outside the box after initial good work, beating the defender but seeing her strike go over the bar.
