Mason Holgate let off with formal warning by FA after investigation into historic homophobic tweets from 2012

Mason Holgate will not be fined or face a suspension after the FA completed their investigation into historic homophobic tweets he published.

The Everton defender has been warned about his future conduct and must attend an educational course but the case is now closed following an investigation that began in January.

The tweets, which were issued when Holgate was 16, came to light in the aftermath of the England Under-21 international alleging that he had been racially abused by Liverpool striker Roberto Firmino during an FA Cup third round tie.
