Phil Jagielka called on Everton to “dust themselves down” and focus on getting back to winning ways after “failing to do themselves justice” in the 4-0 defeat against Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley.
The Blues skipper felt his side put in a controlled performance in the first half, limiting Spurs’ dangerous attack to long-range efforts, while threatening themselves, with debutant Cenk Tosun particularly catching the eye, and Wayne Rooney having a goal ruled out for offside shortly before the hosts’ opener.
But Jagielka rued poor defending for Heung-Min Son’s 26th-minute opener, before Harry Kane’s close-range finish seconds after the restart left the Toffees with a mountain to climb.
