Everton U23s lift Premier League 2 trophy... but only after defeat by rivals Liverpool in fiery encounter

Everton's under-23 side endured an evening of mixed emotions on Monday, as they got their hands on the Premier League 2 trophy, but only after having been beaten by rivals Liverpool.

The Toffees had already secured the title heading into the final game of the season.

But they would not have wanted to end their campaign with a bad-tempered defeat by their neighbours, who finish in third place behind Manchester City.
