Former Liverpool player turned BBC pundit has faced an angry backlash from Everton supporters, who took exception to an on-air comment he made regarding a supporter with crutches.
The Toffees ultimately lost the FA Cup third round tie with rivals Liverpool 2-1 but, upon Gylfi Sigurdsson finding an equaliser in the 67th minute, Everton fan Graeme Landon Tootle was seen amid a frenzy of away fans celebrating with his crutches above his head.
At full-time the incident was flagged up in the BBC studio, to which former Liverpool midfielder Murphy stated: 'He's not going to get his benefits this week, they just caught him.
