Gareth Southgate is waiting on Jordan Pickford’s fitness ahead of England’s World Cup qualifiers, with West Bromwich No 1 Sam Johnstone a candidate to replace the Everton keeper in the squad.
Pickford was due to have a scan yesterday on the rib injury he aggravated during Saturday’s 2-1 loss to Burnley, though England are hopeful their first-choice keeper will be available.
The Everton man views the World Cup qualifiers against Albania, San Marino and Poland as crucial, with the Euros just three months away, and is desperate to be in Southgate’s squad when it is named on Thursday.
