West Brom and Southampton were the only two teams who could threaten the Toffees’ participation in Europe, but both needed to win all their remaining games.
The outcome was confirmed following West Brom’s defeat to Leicester City and Southampton’s goalless draw against relegation candidates Hull City.
Ronald Koeman’s side can still mathematically qualify for the Champions League as they trail fourth-placed Manchester City by seven points with 12 points still available.
But the Merseyside club are guaranteed to compete in the Europa League at the least, with the Toffees last taking part in the competition in the 2014/15 campaign.
