Brendan Rodgers will step up efforts to take unsettled Everton midfielder James McCarthy on loan after securing a Champions League windfall.
The Celtic manager has drawn up a list of potential signing targets for the group stage.
Targeting a mobile central midfielder, Rodgers has initiated moves to challenge Newcastle, Sunderland, Watford, Crystal Palace and Bournemouth for the services of Republic of Ireland international McCarthy.
A former target before leaving Hamilton for Wigan in 2009, the 25-year-old has slipped out of favour under new Goodison manager Ronald Koeman.
