BT Sport have rejected the Government's call to air Saturday's Merseyside derby for free.
Liverpool is the first city in England to be placed in the top tier of the new local coronavirus restrictions, meaning pubs in the area are closed and households are banned from mixing.
But MPs fear residents could break the rules this weekend to watch the Goodison Park game at other people's homes because the match is only available to BT Sport subscribers.
Speaking at Wednesday's Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Committee hearing, culture secretary Oliver Dowden said making the derby free to air as a 'gesture' would be a 'great thing to do' to avoid more problems in the city.
