Brendan Rodgers steps up his pursuit of James McCarthy on loan as Celtic boss uses Champions League windfall

Brendan Rodgers will step up efforts to take unsettled Everton midfielder James McCarthy on loan after securing a Champions League windfall.

The Celtic manager has drawn up a list of potential signing targets for the group stage.

Targeting a mobile central midfielder, Rodgers has initiated moves to challenge Newcastle, Sunderland, Watford, Crystal Palace and Bournemouth for the services of Republic of Ireland international McCarthy.
