Patrick Lodewijks is relishing the “unique” situation of having two goalkeepers so close to claiming a starting role in the Everton line-up.
The Dutch goalkeeper coach, who joined the Blues from Feyenoord last summer, believes the healthy competition that exists between Joel Robles and Maarten Stekelenburg is getting the best out of both custodians.
Stekelenburg was initially entrusted as first-choice at the beginning of the 2016/17 season, hitting the ground running with three clean sheets in his first five games for the Toffees.
However, after the 34-year-old Dutchman suffered a dead leg in the Merseyside derby back in December, Joel Robles seized his opportunity with both hands and has retained his starting berth following Stekeleburg’s return to full fitness.
