Aston Villa have confirmed that £26million summer signing Diego Carlos suffered a ruptured Achilles' tendon in their win over Everton and will now require surgery.
The 29-year-old has started both Premier League games of the new campaign under Steven Gerrard, but was forced off through injury during Saturday's home win over Everton.
A statement from Villa on the club's website has since confirmed the severity of the Brazilian's injury:
'Aston Villa can confirm Diego Carlos has ruptured his Achilles' tendon.
