LAFAYETTE, La. – Opening day was a successful one for the University of Evansville softball team as the Purple Aces earned a 14-6 win over Samford to start the day before dropping a 7-1 decision to #22 Louisiana on Friday in the Mardi Gras Classic.
"We saw a lot of positive things today that we can build on," head coach Mat Mundell said when the day was complete. "I loved the way our pitchers competed. We got a ton of ground balls. If we pitched like we did today all season it's going to be a lot of fun.
