EDMONTON - More and more puffs of smoke are wafting this way from Prague, Czech Republic, strongly suggesting former San Jose Sharks head coach Todd McLellan is about to become the new head man with the Edmonton Oilers.
The Oilers are not commenting on any of the speculation, and neither is McLellan, who is coaching Team Canada at the world hockey championship, which enters the elimination round Thursday.
But Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, hardly the sort of reporter to try to fly with one wing, as they say, has delivered informed speculation, both on a Stanley Cup playoff broadcast and in a radio interview on Wednesday, saying he believes a deal between the Oilers and McLellan will be concluded “barring a major collapse.
