EDMONTON - Peter Chiarelli has taken over as president of hockey operations and general manager of the Edmonton Oilers.
“A week and a half ago, I got bad news and today I’ve got terrific news,” said Chiarelli, who was introduced by Oilers Entertainment Group chief executive Bob Nicholson at a Friday afternoon news conference at the Hotel MacDonald.
“I have thoughts, I have ideas, I have a lot of things going on … I’m really excited to be a part of this.”
Chiarelli was recently fired by the Boston Bruins after eight seasons as GM. He twice guided the team to the Stanley Cup final, winning in 2011.
