Oilers sign defenceman Justin Schultz to one-year contract

The Edmonton Oilers, who had elected to file for club arbitration, have settled with defenceman Justin Schultz.

He gets a one-year, $3.9-million contract and the Oilers will have a buyout window that opens three days from now and will remain open for 48 hours.

General manager Peter Chiarelli had said recently that the Oilers elected to file for arbitration, to get a deal done, but that he didn’t know if the team would use the window.

Teams can only buyout players making a minimum of $2.75-million.

As for Schultz, he has another year to find his game — something he vowed to do at the end of the 2014-15 season.
