EDMONTON - Tucked in the corner of the stands in the lower bowl of Rexall Place sat a group of invested onlookers surveying the Edmonton Oilers’ orientation camp.
Bob Nicholson, the chief executive of the Oilers Entertainment Group, general manager Peter Chiarelli and head coach Todd McLellan were among the members of the management team watching the NHL team’s prospects during Thursday’s on-ice drills.
The attention grabber, as expected, was Connor McDavid.
“It’s hard not to put your eyes on Connor,” said McLellan, who was hired in May and has since watched the roster undergo a significant transformation.
