EDMONTON - For the briefest of moments, Connor McDavid was just one of the rookies who descended upon Rexall Place for the Edmonton Oilers’ annual orientation camp.
He took part in the on-ice agility drills, pushed through the fitness test, and got an initiation of sorts from defenceman Darnell Nurse at the end of the day.
“I wasn’t picking on him,” Nurse said. “But it’s his first camp ... let him get it.”
“It was all in good fun,” said McDavid, who was singled out by Nurse as the first star of the practice session. His reward was a quick, solitary lap around the rink.
