EDMONTON - Former Edmonton Oilers head coach Todd Nelson will interview for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins job in the American Hockey League that opened up last week when the New Jersey Devils hired John Hynes as their head coach.
Though the Oilers said weeks ago that Nelson was free to look around, they just formally granted the Pittsburgh Penguins permission to talk to him about the NHL team’s farm job. Nelson earlier had a long talk with his Oilers replacement, Todd McLellan, presumably about remaining with Edmonton.
But Nelson may want to run his own team. Just not in the Oilers’ organization.
