Sault Ste. Marie, Ont. — Connor McDavid is trying to live in the present instead of wondering whether Taylor Hall will be his Edmonton Oilers’ winger next season.
He’s still in the Ontario Hockey League, not the NHL. He’s an Erie Otter, not an Oiler.
McDavid just took an 11-hour bus ride from Erie, Pa. — the longest trip he will make in junior hockey — on a sleeper bus with bunks. The Otters are playing the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds in the OHL’s Western Conference final, trying to win the Wayne Gretzky Trophy. Gretzky played one year of junior with the Greyhounds 37 years ago.
