In a move that shouldn’t surprise anyone, the Edmonton Oilers will not be reupping two of their free agents, Ty Rattie and Tobias Rieder. This means that both players will hit free agency and try their luck with another team as of July 1st.
Rattie and Rieder both came into the season with the opportunity to earn top 6 ice time along McDavid, Draisaitl, and Nugent Hopkins. Ty Rattie had decent numbers, albeit in a small sample size with McDavid during the 2017/2018 season, going 5-4-9 in 14GP with the Edmonton Oilers.
Rieder meanwhile was a sought after free agent last summer and many pundits around the league were surprised that Reider took a small 2 million dollar one year deal, and the move was overall well received.
