The Edmonton Oilers season finally begins Wednesday, when the team takes on the Calgary Flames in their 2016-17 opener. Prior to puck drop, there are a few updates that you should know.
First off, Jesse Puljujarvi has changed his number. The Finnish winger will sport number 98 with the team this season. The Oilers will likely give him a nine-game trial run, and decide from then whether or not he’ll stay up.
Drake Caggiula will not play in the season opener tonight, and remains day-to-day, according to head coach Todd McLellan. In the meantime, the Oilers will have Leon Draisaitl slot in as the third-line centre.
