Something odd happened on Monday, when the Arizona Coyotes placed centre Antoine Vermette on waivers for the purpose of buyout. With him on the wire and free for the taking, the question rises: should the Edmonton Oilers even look at claiming him?
The 34-year-old is a decent veteran player, and he has put up strong, consistent numbers for the past four seasons. For the last three years, he’s had three consecutive 38-point seasons, and before that, had a 45-point campaign. Through the 2015-16 campaign, Vermette racked up 38 points with 17 goals and 21 assists.
Seems like strong numbers, especially given his age and career.
