Pouliot was expected to be the Edmonton Oilers third line left-wing when he signed a five-year, $20 million contract with the Oilers a year ago. After playing with five different teams in five years, there was some concern from fans about giving that kind of money to a top-nine forward. However, due to the David Perron trade and Hall’s extended injury, an opportunity opened up for him as a top-line winger.
