The Edmonton Oilers have placed forward Anton Lander on waivers, the team announced Monday. If he clears, he will likely report to the AHL’s Bakersfield Condors.
Lander had a mediocre preseason this year, despite having a strong training camp the year before. In fact, his 2015-16 preseason won him a roster spot last year, but he hasn’t stood out since. While this isn’t the best sign for him, it’s a good sign for the Oilers this season.
It shows that they are taking each part of their lineup seriously, even the bottom-six. Though Lander is a fourth-line centre who could have been the extra forward, they will likely keep a player who has performed better up in the NHL.
